Underground DNA Spray for Cable

The deployment of SelectaDNA Container Sprays and Van Sprays has been a huge success for OpenReach, who run the UK’s digital network.

Now the company is recognising an opportunity to further protect their assets and infrastructure. After a request was submitted to Selectamark (the company that produces SelectaDNA) to develop a forensic spray to protect underground pits which house copper and fibre cable, it was developed and delivered and is now being used to protect cable in hot-spot areas across the country.

Once a manhole cover is removed by an unauthorised person, the system sends an alert by email or SMS to
Openreach security team, while the offender is sprayed with a unique, synthetic DNA solution to link them to
the crime. Since implementation of the systems, there have been no attacks on the protected sites.
