SelectaDNA Tools & Equipment Kits launch in 28 Jewson branches 

SelectaDNA Tools & Equipment Kits are now available over the counter at 28 Jewson branches across the UK, from Aberdeen and Edinburgh down to Plymouth and Southampton. 

The kits give tradespeople a way to forensically mark their tools and register them with a unique DNA code – this means that when police recover stolen goods, they can prove an offence has been committed and return the tools to their rightful owners.  

Why it matters at the counter 

Tool theft is one of the most disruptive crimes affecting the trade. The cost of replacing stolen equipment is only part of it - lost working days, cancelled jobs and higher insurance premiums often add up to more than the tools themselves. 

Recovery is where forensic marking makes the difference. When police recover stolen property, they need a way to establish who it belongs to. An unmarked drill is just a drill. A marked one carries a unique forensic code that links it back to a registered owner. 

Putting the kits in branches means tradespeople can pick one up alongside their usual order, and see how the marking works before they buy.

Training in every branch 

Ahead of the launch, our team visited all 28 participating branches to train staff in person. Each branch is now equipped to demonstrate the powerful technology to their customers. Once applied, the solution is near-invisible to the naked eye but fluoresces blue under UV light – giving police the evidence they need to convict.  

What's in the kit 

Each SelectaDNA Tools & Equipment Kit marks up to 50 items and costs £59.50 including VAT, working out at around £1.19 per tool. Lifetime registration on the Secure Asset Register is included, with no ongoing fees. 

The solution is rated Grade A under BSI PAS 820:2012, the recognised UK standard for forensic marking, which certifies it to last at least five years outdoors. The kit also includes warning stickers for tools, toolboxes and vehicles, which act as a visible deterrent. SelectaDNA carries Secured by Design accreditation and is supported by Crimestoppers.
