SelectaDNA Personal Defence Spray protects people and combats VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls). Many have been left feeling deeply unsafe due to the recent high-profile instances of horrific attacks covered at length in the media. In response, SelectaDNA has developed its Personal Defence Spray as a valuable tool in crime prevention. Whether you are a worker made vulnerable in a forward-facing profession or someone who simply does not feel safe when out alone, our forensic spray will help you deter assailants, or to increase the likelihood that attackers will be caught and face justice.

When the button on top of the SelectaDNA Personal Defence Spray unit is pressed down, it sprays a synthetic DNA solution which can be used to forensically connect a perpetrator with the crime they have committed. Each SelectaDNA Personal Defence Spray unit has a unique solution, different from that of every other unit. By registering your unit upon purchase, the Police will be able to connect your spray unit to any criminals who end up in custody after being tagged by it.

Once sprayed onto an assailant's clothes or skin, the solution is extremely difficult to remove and will persist for weeks. Invisible to the naked eye, the spray reveals itself only under police UV lights, making it near-impossible for criminals to scrub off, or even be aware that they have been marked.

Instructions for use

Upon delivery of the SelectaDNA Personal Defence Spray, the first thing the user should do is register the product. This will allow for the easiest and fastest way for the police to connect a criminal tagged with the spray back to the crime scene.

To spray a criminal or assailant, simply press down on the button at the top of the unit. The spray can reach up to 4m, so use the spray within this range.

In most cases, we recommend warning potential assailants that you are carrying a forensic spray before use of the spray. SelectaDNA is a powerful deterrent due to the fear criminals have of DNA evidence.

How close do I need to be to an attacker when I deploy the spray?

The spray jet can reach up to 4 metres. The unit will produce the best results when deployed at close range.

What happens if I lose my canister?

If your SelectaDNA Personal Defence Spray unit is lost or stolen, please email us at [email protected]. We will need to log that your unit is no longer in your posession.

Is the unit reusable?

Due to the fact that the unique DNA solution is intended to tag a single criminal and crime scene, it is not supposed to be used more than once. If the DNA solution has been deployed multiple times, it loses value as a piece of evidence in court. The DNA solution should not be deployed for any other purpose than tagging an assailant or other criminal. After a single use of the unique DNA solution the incident should be reported to the police, who will take the unit to be used as evidence.

Are the police aware of this technology, and do they know how to detect it on people?

Yes, SelectaDNA was launched in 2004, and since then we have trained thousands of police and other law enforcement officers on how to find and recover traces of the forensic spray solution.

How long will the product last if it is unused?

The product should be replaced after two years.

Is the product flammable?

Like any pressurised container, the canister may burst if heated. Keep your canister away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, and other ignition sources. Do not smoke near your canister. Do not pierce or burn your canister, even after use. Do not expose your canister to temperatures exceeding 50°C/122°F. Disposal of your canister should be in accordance with local, county, or national legislation.
