Cleveland Police have implemented the use of SelectaDNA Tagging Spray in order to combat anti-social behaviour, with nine off-road vehicles already seized by police in September 2023 alone.
Police covering Hartlepool are committed to tackling the spate of anti-social behaviour linked to powered two‑wheeler enabled crime.
SelectaDNA Tagging Spray is designed to provide evidential tagging which is proven to reduce criminal activity. The solution contains a unique DNA code that is registered to the user. Police can then use an ultraviolet light to locate marked areas, immediately linking the offender to the crime scene.
Chief Inspector Peter Littlewood of Hartlepool Neighbourhood Policing, said “PCSOs have also started using DNA spray to tag bikes and riders attempting to conceal their identity,
leaving a unique indelible mark to help police spot offenders and take “positive action”.”
The same DNA technology is also available as a handheld defence spray that is currently used by trained security officers across the UK to protect against retail crime and disorder.
