The SelectaDNA Vehicle kit was recently featured on BBC1’s Rip Off Britain as part of a news item on the latest wave of ‘ car cannibalism’, where parts such as catalytic converters (CATs), are stolen from people’s cars by masked thieves in broad daylight.
The film made suggestions for how members of the public can avoid CAT theft, such as installing CCTV and parking in a well-lit area.
Our Police Liaison Officer, Nick Roach, was then shown applying the forensic marking to parts of a vehicle including the CAT.
Mark Silvester from West Midlands Police Crime Reduction Team was also interviewed and said: “Marking the parts of a vehicle could deter thieves because they are traceable back to that particular car.”
The Vehicle kit marks all types of cars and commercial vehicles including 4x4s, vans and classic cars. It is police approved and has been tested to the very highest industry standards, attaining PAS820 Grade A External and Thatcham Quality Assurance.
