Defence Spray Shortlisted For Risk Management Award

We are delighted to be shortlisted for CIR Magazine's Risk Management Awards.

We have been nominated for the Public Safety Award for our work with UK Police and private security staff who are successfully using SelectaDNA Defence Spray to tag offenders with a unique forensic ID code. 

Drive-by thefts carried out by moped-riding attackers on stolen mopeds and scooters has increased in recent years. The attacks have been a major concern of residents in cities like London and Edinburgh, but the Police may finally have found the answer to the problem.

By arming officers with synthetic SelectaDNA Defence Spray that tags offenders with a unique forensic ID code, it gives them a valuable weapon that can help track down suspects and link them directly to a crime scene. The sprays can be aimed at suspected criminals without the need for physical intervention.

Police figures have shown it has reduced moped-related crimes by 60% in both London and Edinburgh, and it also appears to be acting as an effective deterrent. The spray has reduced anti-social motorbike-related crime in other areas of the UK as well.

The Defence Spray also has applications in the sports and retail sectors, with the security team at Liverpool FC carrying it to protect fans and visitors and deter unrest on match days at Anfield stadium. 

Harrods, JD Sports and Westfield Shopping Centres are also customers, with private security staff using Defence Sprays to protect shoppers from criminal incidents such as ‘steaming’, where large, organised gangs run into targeted stores, threaten staff with violence then flee with armfuls of stock. Such incidents can have severe detrimental effects on staff and customers who are left shocked and frightened by what they have witnessed.

Now in their 10th year, the Risk Management Awards recognise those individuals, organisations and teams that have significantly added to the understanding and practice of risk management. 

Judged by an independent panel of experts for exceptional performance, the awards provide an opportunity for organisations and individuals to showcase their best products, projects and people. 

The Risk Management Awards ceremony will be held in London on 6th November 2019.
