SelectaDNA is being introduced for the first time to the motor racing community through a partnership with Red Rose Racing.
The team is currently competing in the Hillclimb and Sprint Association’s National Speed Championship in a 1992 Swift SC92 Formula Ford single-seater powered by a Ford Kent 1600 engine.
The car is entered as the SelectaDNA Swift and is being driven by 67-year old Geoff Lancaster, who started racing just last year driving a Renault Clio in the the same championship.
Geoff says: “I won a couple of trophies in my debut year and having been a lifelong motor racing fan had always wanted to drive a single-seater. I had such fun last year in the Clio that I decided at my age there was no time to lose and took the plunge!”
This year is the 50th Anniversary of the inception of Formula Ford so there is a special championship for the historic Pre’94 cars at the UK’s Hillclimb and Sprint venues. The SelectaDNA Swift will compete in these as well as the HSA Speed Championship.
“I found the car in Dublin in October, and although it had won an Irish Championship in the hands of a Dublin youngster, it had lain dormant for some while and needed a great deal of attention.
“My long time racing buddy Mick James and I worked on it solidly and eventually I got to drive it in testing only the day before the inaugural Snetterton meeting. Being a new car on the scene it attracted a lot of attention and everyone wanted to hear about the SelectaDNA connection.”
Geoff has been a fan of the SelectaDNA system to protect motor vehicles from theft and has used it on his roadgoing Maserati. When he switched from the Clio saloon to the open single-seater he immediately went for SelectaDNA as his security system.
Geoff explains: ”My Maserati is an open-topped car so the additional protection provided by forensic marking is significant in deterring the professional thief. It got me thinking about the vulnerability of racing cars. This is compounded by the fact that they have no locks or alarms and some don’t even have unique chassis markings. Also racers have lots of expensive kit lying around like tools, wheels and tyres, generators and even trailers. My advice to my fellow competitors is to mark up everything.”
