CARGO containers on trains in Hungary are being protected by SelectaDNA after they were targeted by thieves who were stealing metal valves.
The project, which has already resulted in a significant reduction in theft, is being carried out by Rail Cargo Hungary, the biggest cargo rail company in the country and a subsidiary of OBB (Austrian Railway).
A spokesman for Rail Cargo Hungary said: “We are introducing SelectaDNA as a theft deterrent on all vehicles from March 2015 and have already seen a reduction from 24 to 4 incidents in just six months. In fact, 2 of the 4 thefts were of valves that had not yet been treated with SelectaDNA.”
The valves now have ‘dual protection’ as they have been marked with two SelectaDNA products - Trace and Grease. Trace is a specially-formulated spray containing metal microdots which can identify Rail Cargo Hungary as the registered owner of the valves; and SelectaDNA Grease is painted onto the valves, marking the metal and staining the clothes of any thieves trying to steal them.
