We were burgled last week. The thief got over £6000 worth of valuables including cameras, a laptop and jewelry. I keep finding more things missing. It looks like an "inside job", done by one of the cleaners or handymen we've had working in the house.
Never a dull moment. Of course it's covered by household insurance, but it's such a lot of hassle to replace stuff and file a claim.
The police have been very supportive. They gave me a kit from SelectaDNA, which has some gloop that looks like clear nail varnish with little black dots (which look like ground black pepper) in it, and each little black dot contains a unique number that is linked to us. You paint the stuff on your valuables so if they are ever stolen and recovered, the police can get them back to you and you can help them solve the crime. The gloop is almost invisible, but glows blue under UV light so the cops can find it.
